Zimbabwe (2019)

Report of the Special Rapporteur (A/HRC/43/44/Add.2)

The Special Rapporteur on the right to food, Hilal Elver, conducted an official visit to Zimbabwe from 18 to 28 November 2019, at the invitation of the Government. The Special Rapporteur found that despite the constitutional protection of the right to food and a sophisticated set of human-rights based national laws and policies, man-made starvation is slowly making its way in the country, with more than 60% of the population now considered food-insecure due to extreme poverty, high inflation and poor agricultural productivity, among other causes. For access to the full report and to read the Special Rapporteur’s concluding remarks and recommendations, click here.

Azerbaijan (2019)

Report of the Special Rapporteur (A/HRC/43/44/Add.1)

The Special Rapporteur on the right to food, Hilal Elver, conducted an official visit to Azerbaijan from 1 to 11 October 2019 at the invitation of the Government. Argentina (2018)

Report of the Special Rapporteur (A/HRC/40/56/Add.3)

The Special Rapporteur on the right to food, Hilal Elver, conducted an official visit to Argentina from 12 to 21 September 2018, at the invitation of the Government.  The Special Rapporteur’s visit sought to reveal the impact of Argentina’s ongoing economic and financial crisis on the right to food. Indonesia (2018)

Report of the Special Rapporteur (A/HRC/40/56/Add.2)

The Special Rapporteur on the right to food, Hilal Elver, conducted an official visit to Indonesia from 9 to 18 April 2018, at the invitation of the Government. The Special Rapporteur’s objective during the visit was to assess the enjoyment of the right to food in Indonesia, by identifying best practices and the remaining challenges, especially for vulnerable populations, including women, children and populations living in rural and remote areas. Viet Nam (2017)

Report of the Special Rapporteur (A/HRC/40/56/Add.1)

The Special Rapporteur on the right to food, Hilal Elver, conducted an official visit to Viet Nam at the invitation of the Government from 13 to 23 November 2017. In the report, the Special Rapporteur reflected upon the remarkable economic and political transformation over the past 30 years  and considered the progress in ensuring the right to adequate food for all. Zambia (2017)

Report of the Special Rapporteur

The Special Rapporteur on the right to food, Hilal Elver, undertook a mission to Zambia from 3 to 12 May 2017, at the invitation of the Government, with the aim of assessing the progress made and the challenges faced in realizing the human right to adequate food. In the report, the Special Rapporteur considered the wide range of policies and programmes that Zambia has adopted to strengthen the agricultural sector, given its vital role in the realization of the right to food. Paraguay (2016)

Report of the Special Rapporteur (A/HRC/34/48/Add.2)

The Special Rapporteur on the right to food, Ms. Hilal Elver, undertook a mission to Paraguay from 4 to 10 November 2016, at the invitation of the Government, with the aim of assessing the progress made and the challenges faced in realizing the human right to food in the country. Poland (2016)

Report of the Special Rapporteur (A/HRC/34/48/Add.1)

The Special Rapporteur on the right to food, Hilal Elver, conducted an official visit to Poland from 18 to 25 April 2016, at the invitation of the Government. The Special Rapporteur’s objective during the visit was to identify the main obstacles hindering the full realization of the right to food and to propose strategies to tackle those obstacles in order to improve the enjoyment of rights by individuals, particularly the most vulnerable in society. The Special Rapporteur focused on how Poland, as a country whose economy has experienced transition from a centralized system to a market economy, has adjusted its agricultural system and how this transition has affected small-scale farmers and those in vulnerable situations. Morocco (2015)

Report of the Special Rapporteur (A/HRC/31/51/Add.2)

The Secretariat has the honour to transmit to the Human Rights Council the report of the Special Rapporteur on the right to food on her country visit to Morocco from 5 to 12 October 2015. In the report, the Special Rapporteur examines the general challenges facing Morocco in implementing measures to ensure the realization of the right to adequate food and nutrition. The Special Rapporteur highlights the particular difficulties encountered by the most vulnerable groups affected along with the challenges preventing them from their full enjoyment of the right to adequate food. The report recognizes the important steps already taken by the Government to realize the right to food, and highlights a number of recommendations for consideration by all stakeholders, in particular the development of a national framework law on the right to food. Philippines (2015)

The report examines the general challenges facing the Philippines in implementing measures to ensure the realization of the right to adequate food and nutrition. The Special Rapporteur highlights the particular difficulties encountered by the most vulnerable groups affected, along with the challenges preventing them from their full enjoyment of the right to adequate food. The Special Rapporteur notes that, despite the country’s impressive growth rate in recent years, economic prosperity has not been inclusive. In her report, she recognizes the important steps already taken by the Government to realize the right to food and highlights a number of recommendations for consideration by all stakeholders, in particular the development of a national framework law on the right to food.
